The One Run (Boston, MA) – Saturday, May 25

This year, many Boston Marathon runners, including me, were stopped with just one mile left to go. This weekend, we’ll be given a second chance to feel the exhilaration of crossing the finish line.  Runners are welcomed back to the 25.2 mile mark and spectators are encouraged to line the streets once again to cheer for them. Local businesses will be open and money will be donated to the One Fund.

Boston Irish Festival 5k (Canton, MA) – Sunday, June 9

Looking to celebrate your Irish roots this summer? Runners and walkers alike are welcome to participate in this 5k race in Boston. While this race is sure to be fun, the post-race festival is the truly exciting part.  Each runner with a bib runner gets free entrance into the festival which promises “live music, Guinness, food, and plenty of craic.” (The word craic is a Gaelic word for fun or good times…don’t worry, I had to Google it too.)

6th Annual New Balance Heartbreak Hill 5k (Chestnut Hill, MA) – Saturday, June 15

This 5k Run/Walk is held to raise money for the Franciscan Hospital for Children. If you’re staying in Boston this summer, this race is perfect for you – it begins and ends at Boston College. After the race, there is a celebration with food and music in order to thank everyone for their support.

Finish at the 50 5k and 10k (Mansfield, MA) – Tuesday, July 3

Whether or not you’re a Patriots fan, this race is an exciting opportunity.  In addition to activities for kids and fitness expos, there will be a 5k and a 10k race ending at the 50-yard line at Gillette Stadium. As the website says, “you will run directly into the stadium onto the field to the cheers of thousands of fans and see yourself on the giant 48 feet wide HDTV screen.” It doesn’t get much cooler than that – I’ve already registered!

YukanRun Triple Threat Races (Rockport, MA) – Saturday, August 3

Heading into last summer, I settled upon the first half marathon I could find in Massachusetts. The YukanRun Triple Threat offers a 1-mile, 5k, and half marathon in the beautiful seaside town of Rockport, Massachusetts. Although the course has some tough hills and you’re likely to be running in high temperatures, it’s an undeniably beautiful route alongside the ocean.
