This year, The Rock at Boston College is doing the season of joy in a big way by generating new content every day in our first ever “25 Days of Christmas”. The Rock is proud to present this installment in our holiday special.
With the temperature going down and holiday lights going up, it’s time to get into the holiday spirit! Although we can all appreciate the Christmas tree in O’Neill plaza and sing along to the Christmas Pandora station, there’s no better time than the holiday season to get out of the BC Bubble and explore the city. Here are some upcoming events in Boston that will be sure to brighten up your December.
Speedo Santa Run: Throw on your most festive bathing suit and a Santa hat for this 1-mile run for charity. This fun run has become a Christmas tradition in Boston over the past 13 years and has even raised over $1.4 million for local children’s charities. This year, the SSRun will be donating money to the Play Ball Foundation, a charity which allows Boston middle school students to get involved with sports and learn the values of teamwork and dedication. The SSRun is on December 14, with registration lasting from 10:00-12:45 and the run beginning at 1pm. Runners must be at least 21 years old (sorry, underclassmen). Click here for more information.
Miracle on 34th Street at Stoneham Theatre: This classic story will remind you of the magic of Christmas, no matter how old you are. When the real Santa Claus gets hired to work at Macy’s, he is determined to convince a young girl that he is real in order to bring the holiday spirit to New York City. This show is presented at the Stoneham Theatre (a 30-minute drive from campus, but worth it!) and will run through December 29. Tickets can be purchased at the Stoneham Theatre website.
Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker: Whether or not you like to dance, you’ll be blown away by Mikko Nissinsen’s spin on the classic holiday ballet. Join Clara and her Nutcracker Prince for a beautiful night at the Boston Opera House. Performances run through December 29; more information available here.
Blink!: Watch as over 350,000 LED lights illuminate Boston’s skyline as the music of the Holiday Pops fills the air. Blink! takes place in Faneuil Hall throughout December. Shows run from 4:30-9:30 with a new show starting on each half-hour. Learn more here or check it out for yourself!
SoWa 10th Annual Holiday Market: This year’s market features original gifts from designers, artists, and crafters throughout New England. You can find that special gift for everyone on your list with goods ranging from jewelry and pottery to stationary and tee shirts. This event will take place on December 14 and 15 at the Benjamin Franklin Institute in the South End. Visit the SoWa website for more information.
Ice Skating: Remember the days of throwing on mittens, lacing up your ice skates, and sliding around your local ice rink or pond when you were a kid? Relive that experience with a visit to Boston Common’s Frog Pond or these other locations in Boston. This is a great option for a study break with roommates or a special date. (Tuesday nights are student nights at the Frog Pond–only $2 for an evening on ice!)
Back Bay Holly-Days: Windows on Display: Spend a Tuesday afternoon checking out the holiday storefronts of shops in Back Bay and score some great deals on Christmas shopping. Every Tuesday this month, featured stores will offer special deals in the spirit of giving this season. Check here for a full list of stores.
