Boston College is home to plenty of people who do incredible things every day: from the sports field to the stage, to the classroom and beyond.  Each week, we’ll be featuring different people from the BC community as a way of honoring their awesome deeds.

Each year, a club called BC Splash hosts a day-long event for high school students. With the help of BC student volunteers, various classes are offered to enrich the lives and academics of local high school students. This year, co-directors Annie Meyer and Abby Horgan are the ladies behind the scenes making sure that the day runs smoothly.  Since they exemplify BC’s calls to service and excellence, we wanted to get to know them a little better!

If you’re interested in getting involved with BC Splash, you can register to teach your own class at BCSplash.com –the deadline is February 28, and the event will take place here at BC on April 6!

How did you get involved with BC Splash?

Annie: I heard about it through some friends and taught with a roommate and another friend sophomore year. Even though I had a class that wasn’t super full, I just thought it was such a great program and wanted to be more involved, so I applied to be on e-board.

Abby: A friend who lived in my dorm freshman year harassed me to no end to sign up to teach a class. I loved teaching and decided to apply for the e-board spring semester of last year.

What is your favorite moment from your involvement in BC Splash?

Annie: From 7-10 AM on the day of the event because I get to see the culmination of all the work that our team has done to prepare and decorate campus. I also love getting to see the students arrive because that’s the moment you know it’s all worth it.

Abby: I love the end of the day of Splash, around 4 PM when we start cleaning up all the decorations and finally get to sit down for the first time all day. It’s that moment when it finally hits you that you were part of this group of 15 college kids who put on this entire event, start to finish.

What’s the best part of your role as co-directors of this event?

Annie: Getting to spend so much quality time with Abby.

Abby: Getting to hang out with Annie each and every day.
