Music That Rocks: Christmas 2017

We know, it can be hard to get in the Christmas spirit with finals upon us.  Lucky for you, we’ve got some of the hottest holiday songs crammed into one list so you can jam out to Christmas music while you do some last-minute studying.  Enjoy these picks from our staff!

“Santa Claus Is Back In Town” – Elvis Presley

“Being from Memphis, I’m a sucker for both Elvis and the Blues, so I can pretty easily say this is my favorite Christmas song.  If you’ve never exposed yourself to Elvis’s extensive catalog of Christmas music, you’re really missing out.” – Austin Hord ‘20

“Dominick the Donkey” – Ray Allen, Sam Saltzberg and Wandra Merrell

“This song is just weird enough that the first time you hear it, you wonder if you heard it properly. Even so, it’s catchy enough that it’s fun to sing along to, and the donkey’s ‘hee-haw’ always makes me laugh.” – Marissa Hollyer ‘19

“Christmas in L.A.” – Vulfpeck

“When I took a break from studying to watch this music video, it was like a bright ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. Not only is the song itself great, but the video is amazing as well. It’s a very catchy tune; I can’t wait to play this at my house all of break. If you’ve never heard of the band Vulfpeck, please make an effort — your life deserves them.” – Brian Hannigan ‘20

Stranger at the Table – Chance the Rapper and Jeremih

“Tired of the same old Christmas music that society has been forcing you to listen to for the past two decades? Don’t conform! Listen to this modernized Christmas song from popular R&B artists that consists of one of the waviest Chance the Rapper verses to date. Down with the system!”- Ryan Foster ‘21

A Christmas F*cking Miracle – Run The Jewels

“Run The Jewels give the Christmas banger we never knew we needed.  A song that hides behind the facade of a Christmas tune while speaking about the materialistic disease that America has fallen to, this track holds the cryptic lyrics of El-P and the murderous bars of Killer Mike for all to enjoy.  If you need an angry escape from your family this Christmas season, check out this track and delve into the Run The Jewels discography while you’re at it.” – Josh Zuckerman ‘20

“All I Want For Christmas Is You” – Mariah Carey

“This is my 3rd (and unfortunately final) Christmas MTR, and I believe that in every single one I have chosen this song. The reason is simple. THIS. SONG. IS. INCREDIBLE. I can listen to it falling asleep, i can listen to it pregaming, I can sing (read: scream) along to it at MA’s (with ~200 fellow eagles). Oh, and I can listen to it outside the Christmas season and not feel weird about it? This song is hands down the greatest Christmas song ever and there is absolutely no debate. But in all honesty, all I want for Christmas is 4 more years at Chestnut Hill. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas y’all.” – Korey Ryan ‘18

  1. Great list! I love non-traditional Christmas songs. Here’s a playlist of some lesser-known Christmas music:
